About Teen Perspectives Library
A place to explore, question, grow and find your way through the world.
Being a teenager can be complicated. You are old enough to have opinions, questions, dreams and strong feelings about the world around you, but sometimes you are still treated as though you are simply a child who does not know any better. People may assume you are being irrational when you are trying to explain how you feel, or tell you what you should think before taking the time to understand what you actually think. And sometimes, you can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. You may have questions about friendships, family, love, identity, school, the future, society, your beliefs and the person you are becoming, but you might not always know whether those questions are okay to ask. You might have an opinion that you are unsure whether you are allowed to voice, or emotions that feel so unfamiliar that you do not know how to handle them.
Teen Perspectives was created for those moments. Through stories, ideas and different perspectives, Teen Perspectives gives teenagers a space to explore the things they are experiencing, the questions they are asking and the people they are becoming. We do not believe there is one right way to be a teenager, and we do not believe that having your own perspective means rejecting everyone else's. Instead, we want to encourage teenagers to think for themselves, listen before deciding, question what they are told, recognise when something does not sit right with them and understand that someone else's experience may be different from their own. We want them to have the courage to say, "I see it differently," while also having the courage to say, "I was wrong."
Because changing your mind is not weakness. You might believe something today because of what you know today, and tomorrow you might learn something new that changes your perspective. That is okay. Growth is change, and change is not a once-off event. The person you are at 15 does not have to be the person you are at 19. Your interests can change, your friendships can change, your opinions can change, your dreams can change and even the things you once thought you would never like can become things you love.
You are allowed to grow, and you are allowed to become someone different from who you thought you would be.
Teenagers experience pressure from everywhere: friends, social media, school, family, culture, trends and expectations. Sometimes there is even pressure from the version of yourself you think you are supposed to be. Teen Perspectives is a reminder that belonging does not have to mean becoming someone you are not. You can listen to your friends without following them. You can respect your family's perspective while developing your own. You can stand by what you believe while remaining open to learning. You can say no. You can change your mind. You can be different. And you can still belong.
Most importantly, Teen Perspectives is not here to tell you who to become. It is a space to help you explore who you are, what you believe, what you feel and where you might be going. Through books and stories, we want teenagers to see pieces of themselves, discover experiences different from their own and realise that many of the questions they are asking have been asked by young people before them. You are not the first person to feel confused. You are not the first person to question yourself. You are not the first person to feel like you do not quite fit. And you do not have to have everything figured out right now. You are still becoming.
So, if you have ever felt like you are the only one asking these questions, wondering these things or trying to figure yourself out, welcome. This space is for you. Come as you are, bring your questions, bring your opinions, bring your doubts and even bring the things you are still trying to understand. Read a story, see a different perspective, start a conversation and decide what resonates with you. You do not have to agree with every perspective you encounter here. You are encouraged to think, question and form your own.
Welcome to Teen Perspectives — a place to explore, question, grow and find your way through the world, one story and one perspective at a time.
