Smooth Life Transitions

20 July 2026

I'm listening to DJ Maphorisa's Amapiano and Afro House set in Miami, and I can't get over how smooth his transitions are.

The kind where the next song doesn't just arrive — it slowly introduces itself. A familiar drum pattern slips into the background. A piano chord lingers a little longer. Then suddenly you realize you've been hearing the next song all along. By the time the beat drops, your mind has already made peace with the change.

That Mnike transition? Pure artistry.

It made me wonder how different life would feel if our transitions worked the same way.

What if we could hear change before it arrived? What if joy announced itself gently instead of all at once? What if heartbreak, growth, motherhood, career changes, or healing gave us subtle instrumentals before the chorus hit? Maybe we'd brace ourselves differently. Maybe we'd let go a little easier. Maybe we'd dance through uncertainty instead of resisting it.

But perhaps life is already doing that.

Maybe we're surrounded by quiet cues we dismiss because we're waiting for dramatic signs. Conversations. Restlessness. New curiosities. Closed doors. Tiny moments that don't make sense until we look back and realize they were the opening bars of a completely different song.

The transition was happening all along.

We just didn't know we were already dancing to it.
