Learner Driver, How I Wonder How You Are?
Learning to drive has been... an experience. 😂🚗
I'm currently preparing for my driver's licence test, and wow... I'm going through it. 😭🤣
What surprised me most is that I've become fascinated by the science behind driving. The more I learn, the more I appreciate how brilliantly a manual car is designed.
For example:
- Lift the clutch past the bite point before giving it enough gas (or release it too quickly), and the engine can't overcome the weight of the car... stall. 😭
- Press the accelerator too hard before the clutch has engaged, or keep your foot on the gas while taking forever to release the clutch... hello roaring engine and that unforgettable burnt clutch smell. Trauma, I tell you. 😂
It's amazing how every pedal movement has a mechanical consequence. Once you understand why the car reacts the way it does, driving starts making so much more sense.
I think my biggest challenge isn't actually driving. It's accepting that I'm not instantly good at something I genuinely care about. I want every move-off from a complete stop to be smooth... but I'm only six lessons in, so I guess I need to give myself some grace. 😅
The funny thing is... despite all the stalls and rough starts, I absolutely love driving. It's exciting, it's challenging, and I already have a feeling that once I get my licence, I'll be looking for any excuse to drive somewhere. 😂
I'm curious:
What was your first experience behind the wheel like? And what's one thing about driving or cars that you found fascinating once you started learning?
