Rant Ahead
Asake's Red Bull Symphonic Perfomance
I have watched Asake's Red Bull Symphonic performance on YouTube over twenty times. Not because I forgot how it sounds. Because every single listen feels brand new!
There was a trend on TikTok where people joked about having a "third ear". The kind of people who don't just hear the melody. They hear the backing vocals tucked behind the lead. The strings that quietly enter in the second verse. A bass line that was hiding in plain sight. The tiny percussion details most people never notice?
I'm one of those people.
Every time I replay this performance, another instrument introduces itself.
Another harmony steps forward. Another tiny detail whispers, "You didn't catch me last time." I don't think music is just something to hear.
I think it's something to explore.
Asake's performance feels less like a concert and more like walking through a museum where every visit reveals a painting you somehow missed before.
The orchestra doesn't overpower his music, it uncovers it.
It reveals textures that were always there but suddenly feel alive.
Twenty plays later…
I'm still discovering something new.
Maybe that's what beautiful art does.
It refuses to become ordinary.
If you haven't seen Asake's Red Bull Symphonic performance yet, now is your turn to experience it. Put on a pair of headphones and watch below.
Listen all the way through, then come back and tell me this:
Which instrument or moment gave you goosebumps?
I'd love to know what stood out for you.
